Note that after starting MinimServer, the Java process will show a high CPU level whilst MinimServer indexes the music collection, but once it has finished doing so, it should then settle down to a very low resource usage once the indexing has completed.Īs to the issue itself, I'd raise a ticket to Qnap support such that they're made aware of it (and can thus investigate and resolve it) but I will also drop Simon (who developed MinimServer) an e-mail, just to let him know about it. Personally, I vastly prefer to use the SSH and command line option as you then have the capability to run top with different refresh rates (the default is 10 seconds) so typically, I elect to run it with a 1 second refresh rate (easier to catch things that are briefly spiking) and the command for running top at 1 second refresh is as as shown below:Īttached image shows how it looks and as you can see, it has the same information as you'd see on the QTS web interface version (click on the above image to expand it). That will also show you what else is going on, so you'll also be able to see if anything is hogging the CPU (for example) whilst the resources/process page is not showing these results. That is what is happening (behind the scenes) when you open that resource monitor tab and click on the 'process' link, so it sounds like something is preventing the output of that 'top' command from being piped onto that QTS web page (rather than there being anything wrong with the top process, itself) but if you wish peace of mind, you can try running 'top' then starting MinimServer and see for yourself (and the output of 'top' should continue displaying in the terminal window, even if the web interface stops showing the results). From what you have described, I very much doubt that it's doing anything detrimental to the NAS, but as a temporary solution, what I would suggest is that when you wish to know what's going on within the NAS (in terms of processes and the resources they are consuming) you could use a terminal (and SSH) access to log in, then at the Linux command prompt, run the 'top' command (and to stop it, simply type the letter 'q'). I've not yet tried QTS 4.3.x, but like yourself, I am a very happy MinimServer user (it's used with my Linn Hi-Fi system).
